Jamie Vardy turns down Arsenal to sign a contract extension with Leicester City

Vardy can look forward to playing in the Champions League with the Foxes next season.

LEICESTER CITY HAVE secured the long-term future of striker Jamie Vardy to end any speculation of the England striker leaving the King Power Stadium.

A statement from Leicester’s official website says:

Leicester City have today agreed with the representatives of Jamie Vardy to extend the England international’s contract with the Premier League champions for a further four years.

“Both parties hope that this announcement will end recent speculation regarding Jamie’s future and confirm his long-term commitment to Leicester City Football Club.”

“Jamie will continue to focus all of his efforts on trying to achieve success with the England team at the European Championships in France.”

“There will be no further comment from either the Club or the player on this matter until the conclusion of the tournament.”

It was reported that Arsenal made a bid in the region of £20 million for the England international, activating a release clause in his contract and offering him a deal reported to be worth £120,000 a week but Arsene Wenger’s hopes of luring Vardy to the Emirates are now over.

The 29-year-old scored 24 goals last season as Leicester went on to win a shock Premier League title. The Foxes and Vardy can now look forward to a debut season in the Champions League later this year.
