From inter-county uncertainty to captaincy: James Ryan to lead Limerick hurlers

Two members of the All-Ireland U21 winning side have been named as vice-captains.

HAVING TAKEN TIME out to reconsider his inter-county future before returning to the Limerick panel earlier this month, James Ryan is now set to captain his side.

A member of the Munster winning 2013 team, Ryan was initially omitted from the first panel which was announced in November, to allow him time to consider his plans for this year.

New manager John Kiely last night named the Garryspillane clubman as captain.

The attacker made his senior inter-county debut in 2008, and was given the man-of-the-match award following a stellar display in Limerick’s Munster final victory over Cork in 2013.

Meanwhile, two vice-captains have been announced — Diarmaid Byrnes and Gearoid Hegarty.

Patrickswell man Byrnes previously captained the Limerick U21 side to All-Ireland triumph in 2015, while Hegarty lined out alongside him, both in the half-back line.
