THIS MUST BE ONE of every jockey’s worst nightmares.
Riding 33/1 shot Lookslikerainted in the 4.45 at Newbury this afternoon, amateur jockey James Ridley looked to have the race all sewn up when closest rival Duke of Lucca fell at the last.
Ridley and his mount were 15 lengths clear and facing nothing more than a Friday evening stroll to the line when a momentary lapse of concentration turned a simple win into disaster.

Mistaking the half-furlong pole for the winning post, Ridley stood up out of the saddle and began to ease the horse down in celebration of a job well done.
And as they trotted obliviously towards the actual finish line, Triangular and Ballytober stormed through to
finish first and second respectively, leaving Lookslikerainted in an unlikely third.
Ridley was later banned for 28 days by the stewards for failing to ride out the horse to the line.
