Sky Sports commentator calls James McClean a 'Northern Irishman from Londonderry'

Was Alan Parry trolling the West Brom winger?

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND international James McClean made his Premier League debut for West Brom at home to Manchester City tonight.

The Derry native, who joined the Baggies from Wigan over the summer, was appearing in the top flight for the first time in over two years but endured a difficult 45 minutes before being substituted at half-time with the score 2-0 to City.

Before he was withdrawn, Sky Sports commentator Alan Parry noted McClean’s lack of involvement by saying ‘the Northern Irishman from Londonderry just cannot get involved”.

McClean has been involved in a number of well-documented controversies over the years. He has refused to wear a poppy on his shirt in the past, turned away from the England flag during ‘God Save the Queen’ and last month tweeted about news that Derry City and Strabane District Council were officially changing the name of Londonderry to Derry.

With that in mind, do you think Parry made an honest mistake or was it said intentionally?
