Could an unsettled James McCarthy be heading home to Glasgow?

Celtic are in the hunt for the out-of-favour Everton midfielder.

WITH CELTIC QUALIFYING for the group-stages of the Champions League, Brendan Rodgers will inevitably look to invest the substantial windfall in acquiring more players before the transfer window closes.

One of his targets is believed to be Republic of Ireland midfielder James McCarthy.

The Glasgow-born 25-year-old appears to be unsettled at Everton and reports have suggested Toffees’ manager Ronald Koeman is prepared to let him go.

Still, a permanent switch to Scotland seems unlikely for McCarthy given how excessive a transfer fee would be.

His wages, estimated at £50,000, would be a stumbling block though Celtic would hope to come to an agreement with Everton to only pay a portion of his salary if he agrees to a temporary move until the end of the season.

Rodgers has already used his skills to secure the acquisition of Scott Sinclair and Kolo Toure and will hope his powers of persuasion can work on McCarthy too.
