Ronan Clarke's recovery from life-threatening injury sees him named Armagh manager

And his predecessor James Daly has raised over £45,000 sterling from cancer charity fundraiser.

RONAN CLARKE HAS been confirmed as Armagh’s new ladies senior football team manager, succeeding James Daly in the post.

Clarke, who won an All-Ireland SFC medal with Armagh in 2002, was seriously injured in a freak accident last August but has been recovering well since then.

Clarke is bringing former Fermanagh ladies boss Lisa Woods with him while his brother Conor will also serve on the new backroom team.

Armagh ladies chairman Owen Reel said: “Ronan Clarke will bring the same commitment and dedication to this Armagh ladies set up that he had when he played and we wish Ronan all the best for the incoming season of 2016.”

Meanwhile, Clarke’s predecessor James Daly has revealed that the charity fundraiser to honour the memory of his late wife, Ann, has raised a staggering amount of money – over £45,000 sterling.

James announced the good news on his Facebook Page, revealing:

“Ok folks that’s it, we presented our cheque to cancer focus and as you can see £45,500.00 stg is our final total, this included £13000 from real men wear pink, £3400 from Aileen Pyers, £1800 from St Paul school and all the different fundraising events that friends and family organised over the last 6 months.”We had a lot of help from all over the country to get this total and our friends Suzy Colledge and Roisin Foster from Cancer focus NI were delighted receiving this cheque.”So thanks again for supporting ALL IN FOR ANN.”

Daly has also hailed the appointment of Clarke, as Armagh aim to build on their good progress in recent seasons.

They won the Tesco Division 2 title this year and contested the last two All-Ireland semi-finals under Daly’s stewardship.

“Ronan is an excellent footballer himself and will bring this great bunch of girls to the next level,” Daly said.

“Armagh ladies are a team on the up and Ronan will use his own experience from his playing days and with his coaching element alongside his experience in fitness, he will no doubt be just what the set up needs.”
