FORMER ST. PATRICK’S Athletic midfielder James Chambers has agreed to a new multi-year deal at United Soccer League side Bethlehem Steel.
The terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed due to club and league policy, and the signing is pending league and federation approval.
The 29-year-old moved to the Pennsylvania-based third-tier side in January, after he won the Player of the Season award with Pat’s in 2015, and also made the PFAI Team of the Year.
Since joining Steel, Chambers has scored three goals in his debut season, and has also been named captain – the third in its young history.
Chambers took the armband in the regular season finale against Orlando City B, and is expected to carry on with his role ahead of the 2017 campaign.

“It was an easy decision for me to be coming back,” Chambers said in a club statement. “The staff and I have the same beliefs on how we both want the game to be played and that’s important to me. The whole organization is going in the right direction and I want to be a part of that.”

“Happy everything is finally sorted. Thank you for the messages. Excited for our second season to start in 2017. Hoping to make it a memorable one.”
“James displayed a technical quality and leadership abilities that we felt would benefit the growth of our club and our younger players for years to come which is why we are so happy to have him commit to our project for multiple years,” Steel head coach Brendan Burke said of the new deal.
“He is a class individual and player and one that we can now say will anchor our team for the foreseeable future.”
