We're not in Kansas any more: Jamaal Charles has joined the Denver Broncos

“I always wanted to play with Denver,” says veteran running back,

JAMAAL CHARLES WILL try to relaunch his injury-hit career in Denver next season after signing a one-year deal with the Broncos.

Charles, one of the NFL’s elite running backs, was released by Kansas City in February after nine seasons but few expected him to switch to the Chiefs’ divisional rivals in the AFC West.

“I always wanted to play with Denver,” Charles said after agreeing a contract worth a reported $3.75 million on Tuesday.

“Growing up, John Elway was my favorite player. I just like the environment, the team and the organisation. I wanted to be a part of it.”

Charles’ last two seasons have been ruined by a succession of knee injuries with the 30-year-old limited to just eight games. Prior to that he was seen as one of the most exciting running backs in the league and was selected to four Pro Bowls.

“I still feel like I can still play ball,” he said. “I can keep up with the young people.”

Elway, the legendary Broncos quarterback turned general manager tweeted: “Excited to have Jamaal Charles join the Broncos. A great addition to our backfield, and we’re thrilled we won’t have to play against him!”
