Lightning strikes twice for luckless Jack Conan as he faces another spell on the sidelines

On a positive note, Luke Fitzgerald is nearing a return to full fitness.

JACK CONAN IS likely to miss the remainder of the season after breaking a bone in his foot for the second time in the space of five months.

The Leinster number eight sustained the injury in training last week and will be sidelined for up to four weeks.

It’s another setback for Conan in a season which has been plagued by injuries.

The 23-year-old was sidelined for 10 weeks after breaking a bone in his other foot in a freak training ground accident last November.

“Unfortunately Jack can’t seem to get any luck,” Girvan Dempsey said this afternoon.

“Jack injured his foot and broke a bone and he’s in a cast for three to four weeks so he’ll be out of action.”

Conan made his return against Cardiff Blues in February but was then dealt another injury blow when he was forced to pull out of Leinster’s trip to Zebre a couple of weeks ago.

There was, however, better news on the injury front for Luke Fitzgerald, Rob Kearney and Marty Moore.

Fitzgerald returned to training with Leinster last week and Dempsey confirmed the winger would be in contention for the weekend’s inter-pro against Connacht.

Saturday’s clash in Galway will come too soon for Kearney and Moore but both are expected to play some part in the Pro12 run-in – although Sean O’Brien remains a number of weeks away from action.

“We’re hopeful we’ll get some of the Ireland lads back but we won’t really know until tomorrow,” Dempsey continued.

“They’ll start filtering in from tomorrow onwards for the rest of the week so we’re hopeful we’ll get a good number of them back for the weekend.

“At the moment we just have to wait and sift through the bodies but as far as I’m aware they all came through the weekend pretty much unscathed just see how they rock up tomorrow.”
