Jack Byrne scores 25-yard stunner as he continues to impress on loan at Oldham

There was plenty of Irish involvement in the League One clash as Bristol Rovers welcomed John Sheridan’s side.

JACK BYRNE NETTED his second goal for Oldham in just his fourth appearance for the club as he continues to shine at the League One outfit.

Currently on loan from Wigan, the 21-year-old Dubliner opened the scoring against Bristol Rovers on Tuesday night with a superb strike from distance, following up his goal against Charlton earlier this month.

In what was a thrilling game, Oldham were 2-0 up heading into the last 10 minutes when the hosts scored twice in quick succession to level.

Galway native Rory Gaffney got them back into the game before Ryan Sweeney made it 2-2.

However, there was still time for another Irishman to get his name on the scoresheet.

Eoin Doyle is also on loan at Oldham (from Preston) and he was on hand in the 88th-minute to ensure a badly-needed three points for John Sheridan’s side – their very first victory of the season.
