One of Ireland's most promising young footballers has signed a new contract with Man City

It’s been confirmed that the midfielder has signed a three-year deal.

PROMISING YOUNG IRISH footballer Jack Byrne has signed a new contract at Man City, it has been confirmed.

The 19-year-old midfielder this afternoon tweeted: “Delighted and proud to sign a new 3 year deal today with @MCFC.”

Byrne is one of two young Irish players currently on the books at City, with Dublin-born goalkeeper Ian Lawlor also part of the Elite Development Squad.

The youngster has also represented Ireland at youth level, recently earning praise from former Arsenal star and City EDS boss Patrick Vieira, in addition to reportedly impressing as part of the U19 UEFA Youth League side.

After City won the International Premier League Cup last season, Byrne said:

“It’s brilliant. All the hard work over the past two years since Patrick [Vieira]‘s been here has really paid off.”

The highly-rated young talent is capable of scoring the odd spectacular goal (see above) and recent reports have suggested his next move could see him go out on loan, as City look to prepare him for a potential first-team bow eventually.

Byrne was also the subject of an excellent short documentary recently.
