Jaap Stam is angling for a move back to England

Former Manchester United defender is currently assistant coach at the Ajax reserves.

JAAP STAM HAS revealed his desire to coach in the Premier League once his current role comes to an end.

The former Manchester United defender announced his retirement from playing football whilst at Ajax in 2007 but has returned to the club as a defensive coach and is currently assistant to Andries Ulderink, the reserve team boss.

However, Stam has revealed that the pair would like to move abroad after the summer and the Premier League is his favoured destination.

“If it was up to me I would go to another country, and I prefer England,” Stam told Radio Oost.

“Me and Andries Ulderink are still working at Ajax and we want to finish the competition as good as possible. After that we want to do something else.”

Stam, who made 67 appearances for the Netherlands national team, also wants the opportunity to build a legacy at a club, but understands that results will shape his career and he needs to work hard to achieve that.

“I’m a trainer that wants to build something at a club and you don’t always get the chance to do that.

“It would be great if there were a lot of offers, but that’s not always the case. The question is: do they want to take a risk with you? Are clubs thinking about Jaap Stam already?

“The Eredivisie is also a great step of course. I’m a young coach after all, but we will wait and see.”
