Irish midfielder on target and the rest of the weekend's Championship action

There was potentially bad news for Martin O’Neill, however, as Greg Cunningham went off injured.

IT WAS ANOTHER busy weekend for several Irish players in the Championship.

Shane Duffy featured as Blackburn were beaten 1-0 by Brighton at the Amex Stadium, with the visitors going into the relegation zone as a result.

Alan McCormack and Alan Judge both started, as Brentford were defeated 1-0 by Burnley, who had Stephen Ward on the bench.

David Meyler played 90 minutes for Hull as they lost 2-1 to Charlton.

Sean Scannell and Joe Murphy both featured for Huddersfield, as they drew 1-1 with Fulham, who had Sean Kavanagh on the bench.

Derrick Williams played the full 90 minutes as Bristol City earned a 1-0 victory away at Middlesbrough.

Greg Cunningham went off injured on 32 minutes as Preston lost 2-1 away to top-of-the-table Ipswich, who had David McGoldrick and Jonathan Douglas in their starting XI.

Lee Frecklington started and Aidy White came off the bench as Rotherham were beaten 4-2 by QPR.

Samir Carruthers and Darren Potter both started as MK Dons drew 0-0 with Reading, who had Paul McShane and Stephen Quinn in their side, while Simon Cox was introduced off the bench for Steve Clarke’s men.

Meanwhile, Joe Mason and Anthony Pilkington featured for Cardiff as they beat Wolves 2-0.

Finally, on Friday, Cyrus Christie and Richard Keogh started, as Derby drew 1-1 away to Birmingham.

Alex Pearce could only make the bench though, while Jeff Henrick was out injured.

Meanwhile, 27-year-old midfielder Stephen Gleeson – who has two senior Ireland caps — played and scored for Birmingham.

Think he has taken them as far as they can go but don’t think anyone else will take em any further. Not in the same league as Kerry, Dubs, Mayo and few more.
