The victories have also confirmed their places at October’s World Championships, which are set to take place in Qatar.
Conlan, the number one seed at bantamweight, comprehensively overcame Danish southpaw Frederick Jensen on scores of 30-27 across the board. The 23-year-old Belfast native, who was a bronze medallist at the 2012 Olympics in London, will now go on to a semi-final meeting with Italy’s Francesco Maietta.
Walsh’s bout against Hungary’s Georgian Nyeki was a much closer affair but he was also victorious as he took his first medal in a major international competition. In Friday’s semi-finals, the Wexford welterweight will take on a Russian opponent by the name of Vitaly Dunaytsev.
Joe Ward secured his medal by beating Belorussian Mikhail Dauhaliavets unanimously, 30-27, 29-28, 29-28, with Hrvoje Sep, the number 1 seed from Croatia to come in Friday’s semi.
Adam Nolan bowed out however, losing 29-28 on all three cards to another Belorussian, Pavel Kastramin
