Martin O’Neill’s side are still well below their counterparts across the water however, with Wales 37th, Scotland 39th and England 17th, while Northern Ireland have moved up eight places to 43rd.
Germany remain top, with Argentina and Colombia second and third respectively, while Spain (11th) have dropped out of the top 10 for the first time since January 2007.
