LEANNE KIERNAN AND Stephanie Roche both found the net as Ireland bid farewell to manager Sue Ronan with a 2-1 friendly victory over the Basque Country.
After six years in charge of the Ireland women’s team, Ronan has decided to step down from her role. She was handed an ideal send-off in her final game at Tallaght Stadium.
After 26 minutes Roche curled in a stunning 25-yard free-kick, but that lead lasted only seven minutes.
The visitors drew level as Yulema Corres beat Emma Byrne with a fine strike from the edge of the area.
Not long after the restart, Kiernan restored Ireland’s advantage. She latched onto a through ball by Aine O’Gorman and finished through the legs of Ainhoa Tirapu.
