With the Toffees already out of the Europa League after a disastrous group campaign, they were away in Cyprus for their final fixture.

While new manager Sam Allardyce misses the trip due to a medical appointment, a number of youngsters were included in the squad to take on Apollon Limassol.

First-team coaches Craig Shakespeare and Duncan Ferguson were in charge for the evening, and 21-year-old Charsley was one of two debutants in the Everton side along with Fraser Hornby.

Wirral-born Charsley, who has progressed through Ireland’s ranks from U17 up to U21 level, is a regular in the Toffees’ U23s side as a hard-working midfielder, but started tonight at left full-back in a 3-0 away win.

Ireland-qualified centre-half Michael Collins, 17, and Polish-born former Shelbourne keeper Mateusz Hewelt, 21, were also on the bench.
