THREE-AND-A-half million ticket requests have been made for matches at the Euro 2016 finals.

Up until midday today, supporters could apply through the one of the 24 fan ticket portals assigned to each nation competing at this summer’s tournament in France.

Having secured their place via the play-offs, Martin O’Neill’s team were handed a difficult group with games against Sweden (13 June), Belgium (18 June) and Italy (22 June).

Followers of the Boys in Green are expected to travel in huge numbers and Uefa have revealed that Ireland is one of the five countries whose fans submitted the most applications for the 800,000 tickets available alongside hosts France, Poland, Austria and Switzerland.

Ireland’s Group E clash with Sweden at the Stade de France is also among the top three most in-demand matches.

The other two are Germany v Poland at the same stadium and Portugal v Austria at the Parc des Princes.

A general public portal will remain open until 1 February for fans planning to apply for individual matches.
