No place for Forrester but Judge, Gleeson and Doherty remain as O'Neill trims Ireland squad

The Aviva Stadium hosts two friendlies against Swizterland and Slovakia later this month.

MARTIN O’NEILL HAS trimmed his squad ahead of the friendlies with Switzerland and Slovakia this month.

The Ireland manager had named a provisional 40-man panel to play the games at the Aviva Stadium on 25 and 29 March.

This evening, he has cut that down to 33 players with uncapped Peterborough United midfielder Chris Forrester missing out along with goalkeeper Keiren Westwood and Preston defender Greg Cunningham.

There is also no room for Everton’s Darron Gibson, Paul Green of Rotherham, Reading forward Simon Cox or Celtic striker Anthony Stokes (currently on-loan at Hibernian).

However, Brentford’s in-form midfielder Alan Judge, Wolves full-back Matt Doherty and Jonny Hayes of Aberdeen could all be in line to earn senior debuts after making the cut.

Birmingham’s Stephen Gleeson, who earned the last of his two caps back in 2007, may also feature.
