Ireland to face Slovakia in Euro 2016 warm-up friendly

Season ticket holders will get in free as the Boys in Green host Slovakia four days after taking on Switzerland.

IRELAND WILL HOST host Slovakia in an international friendly game ahead of Euro 2016, the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) has confirmed.

The friendly against Slovakia will take place at the Aviva Stadium on Tuesday, 29 March, four days after Ireland host Switzerland, and FAI season ticket holders will gain entry for free.

Slovakia are currently ranked 26th in the Fifa ranking, five places above Ireland. It will be the fifth meeting between the two teams, who have previously faced off in competitive qualifying groups.

Martin O’Neill’s team were drawn in Group E of Euro 2016, along with Italy, Belgium and Sweden, and the two friendlies will act as warm-up games ahead of the tournament in France.

Following the draw, O’Neill revealed that Ireland’s group “couldn’t be any tougher” but said that there are ‘big games’ to look forward to.
