IRELAND’S DIRECTOR OF Sevens rugby Anthony Eddy has named his men’s and women’s squads for this weekend’s Olympic Repechage tournament in Lisbon, as they continue their road to Rio.
Both teams must finish in the top three at this weekend’s European Repechage in Lisbon to advance to the World Repechage next year, which will determine the final teams to qualify for Rio 2016.
After cruising to victory in their previous events in Bosnia and Croatia, the mens side will face more established rugby nations in Georgia, Italy and top seed Russia in their pool stage this Saturday.
Director of Sevens Anthony Eddy has not made any changes to his squad from the victory in Croatia last time out, but he has brought in St Mary’s and Leinster man Steve Toal-Lennon, with a squad of 13 named.
Eddy has made three changes to the women’s squad for this weekend after their fifth place finish in Malermont, France in June.
Jenny Murphy, Stacey Flood, Hannah Tyrrell and Emma Murphy all come into the side, with the squad of 13 one bigger than the 12-player squad that played the opening weekends.
