Ireland leave it late once again but live to fight another day

Once again The Boys in Green kept going to the end.

SHANE LONG RESCUED Ireland’s Euro 2016 qualification hopes with an injury-time equaliser against Poland.

The Southampton striker came off the bench to convert this chance after a second half in which the hosts piled on intense pressure.

The visitors — who are still top of Group D tonight — took the lead through Slawomir Peszko. The former Wolves man capitalised on a mistake from stand-in full back Robbie Brady to shoot across the recalled Shay Given and into the back of the net.

Robbie Keane hit the post with a header as Lukasz Fabianski was also saved by the upright when a Brady cross was deflected.

Time looked to be up for the Boys In Green until Long was introduced for Glenn Whelan and the Tipperary man found another late equaliser for Martin O’Neill’s side.
