Dave Connell’s team had no chance of progressing to the semi-finals going into their last Group B fixture after suffering back-to-back losses to Switzerland and France.
The Norwegians went in front on 19 minutes through Jenny Norem, who profited from Amanda McQuillan dropping a cross, before Ingrid Kvernvolden added a second from distance on the stroke of half-time.
Ireland created a total of 12 chances but were unable to find the back of the net yet again, with Eleanor Ryan Doyle and Heather Payne coming close.
“We played some fantastic football but we just didn’t score a goal. I’m very, very proud of our girls and we can hold our heads up high with how we’ve played in this tournament,” said Connell.
“It was a fantastic achievement to qualify and we performed well in our three games, but just didn’t get that bit of luck. We obviously came here to win the tournament, but we can be proud of our performances overall.”
