IRELAND ARE UP into the top 30 in the latest Fifa rankings, which were released today.
The Boys in Green have moved up one place to 30th and remain right behind Northern Ireland, who also qualified for Euro 2016.
There is no change at the top as Group E opponents Belgium are still number one, while Italy are 15th and Sweden sit in 35th.
In your face, Cape Verde Islands
How did Cape Verde Islands get 33rd place? was it beatings countries like America Samoa? Is there any weightings against the opposition you play which determines your ranking? How are the rankings compiled?How are the Cape Verde Islands head of Sweden and Poland? I suppose there is no accounting for FIFA , however if Cape Verde Islands are where they are these rankings should be considered a joke, yet it determines a countries level in qualifying groups.
Nah, Cape Verde and American Samoa are 16 and a half thousand kms apart, so that’s doubtful. They qualified for the last two Africa Cup of Nations – losing only once in the 7 matches they played. They’re joint top of their group for the 2017 edition so far and they’re also in the final round of qualifiers for the World Cup in Russia. They are a rising nation in their confederation.

Never pay any attention to fifa rankings, just like the organisation they are a complete joke!
To be fair it gives you some idea and they are also very important to qualification for future tournaments.. We moved from 67th in the world to 30th with O Neil which seems about right when you compare us to Traps last few games..
Was 67th the lowest we were at ?
Trap has us 24th prior to the last euros …just saying
Lowest was 70th in summer of 2014 before MON first competitive game..
3 defeats in the Euros will send us plummeting back down the rankings. Can’t see that happening though, not under MO’N. Not saying we’ll do well but we wont be embarrassed.

Even UEFA think Fifa rankings are a joke- they have their own ranking system – more realistic
USA in 32nd. They make every world cup cos they’re in the worst confederation (besides Oceania, but that doesn’t count) and they still can’t produce a single world class player. 32nd. Love it. If the Americans were asked to join UEFA, they’d never make a world cup again
Bosnia draw and then loose to Eire, fail to qualify, and then move up in the rankings?
Jack, Euro teams were no playing over the past month, which is how often the rankings are released. Bosnia moved up one place just like Ireland. The Feb rankings only reflect soccer internationals played over the past four weeks in non-Euro zones.
