Ireland win by four wickets
IRELAND SHOOK OFF their recent dip in form to beat Bangladesh in their final Cricket World Cup warm-up.
Andrew Balbirnie starred with 63 not out as Phil Simmons’ side won by four wickets on Thursday.
After disappointing defeats against Randwick and Scotland, Ireland got back to winning ways in Sydney on the eve of the tournament opener.
Three wickets apiece for Max Sorensen and John Mooney saw Bangladesh bowled out for 189.
A knock of 47 by Ed Joyce laid the foundations for a solid Irish innings before he was caught by Anamul Haque off a Taijul Islam delivery.
But Balbirnie’s 63 off 79 balls — including six fours — ensured that they finished the job with overs to spare.
Ireland open their World Cup campaign against the West Indies on Sunday night (10 pm Irish time).
