IRELAND WERE ELIMINATED from the World Twenty20 after their must-win clash with Bangladesh was washed out and declared a “no result.”

After a shock defeat against Oman in their opening match, John Bracewell’s side knew that they needed a win to keep their hopes alive.

But heavy rain and thunderstorms in Dharamsala forced the match to be abandoned after just eight overs, with Bangladesh on 94/2.

The no result kills Ireland’s already faint hopes of qualifying for the Super 10 stage which begins on Tuesday.

“We know we are out so that is disappointing for us,” captain William Porterfield said.

“The loss to Oman is really tough to take now. We missed a few chances in the field today but we pride ourselves on our fielding and shown how good we are in the past.”

Ireland’s final Group A game is a dead rubber against the Netherlands in Dharamsala on Sunday at 9.30am GMT.
