There was further excitement for a young Penguins fan when, during the second period, Buffalo coach Dan Bylsma spotted him in the crowd and carefully threw a puck over the glass towards him.
As the child held out both hands to catch it, an older man darted out of his seat, intercepted it and stuck the puck in his pocket.
The incident had been picked up by cameras inside the First Niagara Center and team officials had been informed as to what had occurred.
So, shortly after, a steward retrieved another puck from Bylsma and presented it to the young fan. And moments later, the Penguins’ official team mascot – Iceberg – brought him a team jersey and gave him a big hug too.
