London Irish have lost locks George Skivington, Nic Rouse and Eoin Sheriff [formerly of Leinster] to injury, meaning they have been on the lookout for cover in this area.

Ex-Munster man Nagle joins the Premiership side from Cambridge University, where he is currently studying and for whom he featured in the Varsity Match in December.

The 27-year-old has been linked with a move to Ireland to join Leinster next season, but his immediate return into the professional game after an 18-month break comes in the Premiership. Nagle will combine his studies in Cambridge with the short-term deal at London Irish.

Ireland U20-capped Sexton, the younger brother of Leinster out-half Johnny, joins the Exiles on a loan deal from fellow Premiership side Exeter. The 23-year-old moved to England in 2014 after a spell with Auch in the French Pro D2.

Sexton made his Premiership debut for the Chiefs last season.

“We are without three senior locks with George Skivington, Eoin Sheriff and Nic Rouse all currently unavailable,” said London Irish’s head of rugby operations, Glenn Delaney, of the new signings.

“Both Ian and Jerry are experienced campaigners and good additions to our squad for the remainder of the season.”
