EARLIER IN THE week, Romania’s Florin Surugiu set an emotional scene after their dramatic victory against Canada, and yesterday it was the turn of Ireland’s Ian Madigan to break down in tears of joy.
Madigan was summoned from the bench in the first half after an injury to Johnny Sexton, and the Leinster man kicked two penalties and a conversion to help steer Ireland to victory.
Despite such a huge Irish crowd at the Millennium Stadium, it looks like Madigan was able to pick out some family or friends in the stands, welling up after such a physically and emotionally draining day.
And it’s sure to be one of the lasting images of the tournament for Ireland, regardless of how they fare in the knockout stages.
