Irish goalkeeper 'delighted' to go out on loan in search of first-team football

Ian Lawlor had been on loan at Barnet but has now moved to Bury.

IRISH GOALKEEPER IAN Lawlor has secured a loan move to League One side Bury until the end of the season as he looks to gain first-team experience.

The 21-year-old Manchester City ‘keeper spent the month of December at Barnet on an emergency loan but was recalled in order to link-up with Bury.

He made his senior debut in a 2-2 draw with Yeovil Town on 12 December.

Lawlor has played for Ireland at U19 and U21 level, while he joined up with the senior squad ahead of a series of friendlies in May of last year.

He moves to Gigg Lane ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup tie against Bradford City.

“We have monitored Ian’s progress since he signed for Manchester City and have been impressed with his form in development games and respective loans,” manager David Flitcroft said.

“We are delighted to secure Ian to the end of the season and he will add great competition with Rob Lainton for the number 1 jersey.”

The Dubliner moved to the Ethiad Stadium in 2010 after impressing the club’s scouts whilst playing for Home Farm.

He was a regular in the Premier League club’s development squad last season and was included in the first team’s pre-season tour of Austria in August.

Bury are currently 14th in League One.
