Irish goalkeeper 'delighted' to go out on loan in search of first-team football

Ian Lawlor had been on loan at Barnet but has now moved to Bury.

IRISH GOALKEEPER IAN Lawlor has secured a loan move to League One side Bury until the end of the season as he looks to gain first-team experience.

The 21-year-old Manchester City โ€˜keeper spent the month of December at Barnet on an emergency loan but was recalled in order to link-up with Bury.

He made his senior debut in a 2-2 draw with Yeovil Town on 12 December.

Lawlor has played for Ireland at U19 and U21 level, while he joined up with the senior squad ahead of a series of friendlies in May of last year.

He moves to Gigg Lane ahead of Saturdayโ€™s FA Cup tie against Bradford City.

โ€œWe have monitored Ianโ€™s progress since he signed for Manchester City and have been impressed with his form in development games and respective loans,โ€ manager David Flitcroft said.

โ€œWe are delighted to secure Ian to the end of the season and he will add great competition with Rob Lainton for the number 1 jersey.โ€

The Dubliner moved to the Ethiad Stadium in 2010 after impressing the clubโ€™s scouts whilst playing for Home Farm.

He was a regular in the Premier League clubโ€™s development squad last season and was included in the first teamโ€™s pre-season tour of Austria in August.

Bury are currently 14th in League One.
