Europe's golfers challenged a heckler to make the putt he slagged them for missing

David Johnson found himself at the heart of the action at Hazeltine this afternoon.

WITHOUT GOING TO PJ Willett extremes, it’s fair to say that American golf fans are a uniquely engaged and noisy type.

So it’s really no surprise that there was some colourful feedback for Team Europe as they practiced their putting at Hazeltine this afternoon.

One man, named locally as David Johnson, caught the ear of Rory McIlroy, Henrik Stenson and Justin Rose after all three missed similar 10-foot putts.

So the Europeans invited Johnson down to show them how it is done.

To make matters that little bit more interesting, as Johnson lined up the putt with McIlroy’s putter, Rose laid a crisp $100 bill at his feet as additional incentive.

Johnson made it! He certainly wasn’t going to leave it short anyway. And listen to the reaction of the crowd.

“Has the Ryder Cup started already?” McIlroy asked as he tweeted out the video from the best vantage point in the house.

It sure sounds like it.
