'Some people are motivated by money, I'm not one of them'

Harry Kane says the wages on offer in professional football are “a bonus”.

TOTTENHAM STRIKER HARRY Kane insists he is “motivated by trying to win trophies”, not lining his pockets with the riches on offer away from White Hart Lane.

The England international continues to see his long-term future at White Hart Lane called into question despite committing to a new contract in December 2016.

That deal is reported to have made him the highest earner in the club’s history, with the agreement worth more than £100,000-a-week.

Kane could, however, earn considerably more were he to move elsewhere, with big-spending Manchester United and Real Madrid among those to have been heavily linked with his services in the not too distant past.

Kane, though, insists that he is happy at Spurs and looking forward to playing a leading role in their pursuit of silverware for many years to come, with any financial reward that comes his way merely “a bonus”.

The 23-year-old told talkSPORT : “The most important thing for me is that the club is moving forward.

We have got a young team, a young, fantastic manager, we have got a new stadium coming in two years and we have got a new training ground.

“Everything is progressing as I want it to be and as the club want it to be so, as long as that continues, I don’t see why I can’t stay there for the rest of my career.

Some people are motivated by money, I’m not one of them. I am motivated by trying to win trophies.

“I am happy at Tottenham. I go into work every day with a smile on my face and that is important.

Money is a bonus of the job, but it doesn’t always make you happy.”

Kane is currently leading another Tottenham charge towards a top-four finish in the Premier League, with 14 goals netted so far.

He has also found the target twice in continental competition, although his efforts were not enough to secure progress through the Champions League group stage and Spurs are now preparing themselves for a last-32 showdown with Gent in the Europa League.
