BOURNEMOUTH MANAGER EDDIE Howe said yesterday that he was uncertain if Harry Arter will feature for the club between now and the end of the season, which would have been detrimental to the Republic of Ireland midfielder’s hopes of featuring at this summer’s European Championships in France.
Arter hasn’t played a game since an achilles injury forced him out of Bournemouth’s Premier League victory over Southampton on the opening weekend of March.

Speaking ahead of Bournemouth’s meeting with Everton this afternoon, Howe acknowledged that while Arter is keen to be involved in Euro 2016, the club are taking a long-term view in terms of his recovery from the injury so he won’t be rushed back into action.
“Harry Arter has improved, but his injury is a niggly one,” said Howe. “We have to protect his long-term future. It’s been difficult for Harry, he wants to play — as they all do.
“He missed pre-season and now the tail-end of the campaign. We hope that he’s fit beyond this season and of course the summer is a big one for him, but we’ll wait to see what happens and take no risks.”
However, Arter is a surprise inclusion in Bournemouth’s starting line-up for the trip to Goodison Park, which will be a boost to his chances of securing a place on the plane to France.
Republic of Ireland manager Martin O’Neill is scheduled to name his Euro 2016 squad on 28 May — a day after a friendly against the Netherlands at the Aviva Stadium.
