Harrington sidelined with elbow injury sustained when hit by an amateur's practice swing

The Dubliner has had a bad run with injuries.

PÁDRAIG HARRINGTON HAS pulled out of the St Jude Classic in Memphis this week after suffering an elbow injury in a freak accident.

The three-time Major winner needed six stitches in his arm after a golf lesson mishap with an amateur, who made contact with Harrington on a practice swing.

Harrington will be out of action for almost two weeks with the injury as he waits for the stitches to heal.

The 45-year-old only recently returned to competitive action after undergoing surgery in March to sort a trapped nerve in his neck but is still in good spirits.

“Just withdrawn from @PGATOUR @fesjcmemphis this week. I was hit on the elbow with a practice swing by an amateur I was coaching at an outing,” Harrington tweeted.

“Thankfully nothing was broken, just 6 stitches. I thought it was the end of me playing competitive golf.”
