Cork City sign former Leeds United goalkeeper Grimes

Johnny C has boosted his net-minder options with the addition of the former Ireland youth international.

CORK CITY HAVE completed the signing of former Leeds United goalkeeper Eric Grimes.

The 21-year-old, who is a Republic of Ireland youth international, revealed his delight at joining his hometown club.

“I’m delighted to sign with the top club in Ireland and I am hoping to push on and end the season by winning the league,” said Grimes.

“I’ve been training for the last couple of weeks and things have been top class, so I am really looking forward to getting into it.

“I know all the lads and I have settled in very well. I want to get my head down, train hard and see if I can push Mark McNulty; I’m coming in to push for a place and to be competitive.”

Meanwhile, City have also added Dave Mulcahy to their ranks this week as they look to contend with fixture congestion.

Mulcahy, 38, joins John Caulfield’s team from Bohemians, where he had made 12 league appearances this season.

“He is well-used to the league, he’s a great leader and a great motivator and a super defender who can play in a number of positions,” said Caulfield.

“He gives us a lot of options, particularly as we are going to have three matches a week going forward.

“To bring in a player who can slot straight into our team and our squad, and that is very important.”
