'A player who can excite the fans' - Preston boss hails Horgan's debut

The Irish winger came off the bench in last Saturday’s FA Cup third-round tie against Arsenal.

PRESTON NORTH END manager Simon Grayson says that Daryl Horgan is a player with “the potential to excite” after the winger made his debut for the club.

Horgan, who joined the Championship outfit from SSE Airtricity League Premier Division champions Dundalk in December, made his first appearance in the FA Cup third round defeat to Arsenal on Saturday.

The 24-year-old came on as a substitute with 10 minutes remaining and, though his side eventually succumbed to a late Olivier Giroud goal, Grayson was pleased with Horgan’s contribution.

“I thought Daryl affected the game when he came on,” Grayson told the Lancashire Evening Post. “He is a player who has the potential to excite the fans and do well for us. It is good to have players in the squad who can fit straight into what we want to do.”

Horgan was a key figure in Dundalk’s European run this season as they narrowly missed out on a place in the Champions League group stages but secured Premier Division honours for the third consecutive season.

The Galway native scored one goal and provided two assists in Dundalk’s six Europa League group games, and his form earned him a call-up to the Republic of Ireland squad for the World Cup qualifier away to Austria in November.
