Gartland leaves Shamrock Rovers to take up assistant manager role in Scotland

The former League of Ireland defender will be Neil McCann’s deputy at Dundee next season.

GRAHAM GARTLAND HAS been appointed assistant manager of Scottish Premiership side Dundee, leaving his role as youth team coach and community officer at Shamrock Rovers.

The 33-year-old was today announced as Neil McCann’s deputy ahead of the 2017/18 season having started his playing career at Dundee United as well as spending four years with St Johnstone.

Gartland had been part of Rovers’ academy set-up for the last number of years and after completing his Uefa ‘A’ licence, now moves into his first senior coaching role.

“I’m delighted to have Graham on board. He is someone I have known for a number of years and will be a great addition to club,” McCann said.

“He knows Scottish football, has sound opinions on the game, but most importantly, he is a man who shares the same values and principles that I aim to instil into the team.”

The former defender, who had spells with Longford, Drogheda, Rovers and Shelbourne in the League of Ireland, will link up with former Ireland international Darren O’Dea at Dens Park.

Dundee finished 10th in the Scottish top-flight last season.
