The Gaelic Players Association set to call for Yes vote in the marriage referendum

A formal announcement is expected next week.

THE GAELIC PLAYERS Association is set to support a Yes vote in the marriage equality referendum.

The news was reported this  morning in the Irish Independent and the Irish Examiner, and The42 understands a formal announcement is expected next week from the players body.

The GPA has surveyed its 2,100 plus membership on the issue and an overwhelming majority have backed the decision to publicly support the campaign for a Yes vote.

Several GAA players have already expressed their support for a ‘Yes’ campaign.

2012 Donegal All-Ireland winner Éamon McGee has taken an active role since attending the launch of the Yes Equality’s nationwide voter engagement initiative in February.

Dublin footballers Michael Darragh MacAuley and Rory O’Carroll joined a host of Irish personalities in a video calling for a Yes vote that was produced by ice-cream giant Ben and Jerry’s and was released last Monday.
