A hat-trick of tries from DTH van der Merwe put Gregor Townsend’s men on the brink of a maximum score. Yet despite van der Merwe scoring early during Lucas Dupont’s 66th minute sin-binning, Glasgow were unable to find the score that would give them the maximum haul.
Benjamin Lucas scored Montpellier’s only try of the game in the 19th minute to help the visitors into a 7 – 10 half-time lead. But the Warriors’s were able to give their man in form, van der Merwe, enough chances to move them four points clear of Bath in Pool 4.
The Premiership side host the Scots in the final pool fixture next weekend, while Montpellier will have a chance to play a part in toppling Toulouse of top spot.
