38-year-old Gigi Buffon produced an absolute masterclass in goalkeeping tonight

After receiving some criticism recently, the Italian was in inspired form earlier.

GIANLUIGI BUFFON IS still at it.

The 38-year-old Italian produced an absolute masterclass tonight as 10-man Juventus defeated Lyon in Group H.

Buffon was in inspired form at the Park OL as he pulled off three incredible stops to deny the hosts.

Firstly, he saved a first-half Alexandre Lacazette penalty.

Lyon were struggling to get into the game but they won a penalty in the 34th minute when Leonardo Bonucci was penalised for wrestling Diakhaby to the floor at a corner.

With France coach Didier Deschamps watching from the stands, Lacazette stepped up to take the spot-kick but his effort was saved by Buffon, diving down low to his left.

Buffon, who had been guilty of conceding soft goals for Italy against Spain recently and in Juve’s win over Udinese at the weekend, produced a great save from Nabil Fekir’s deflected shot and also somehow kept out a Corentin Tolisso header from point-blank range.

“People can organise my funeral, but there’s nobody there,” Buffon told Mediaset Premium.

“I have said many times, without arrogance, that I am very self-critical and don’t need to listen to others who try to use situations to disrespect and show a lack of fairness to people.

“I’ve heard many stupid things in recent weeks, but just one true comment: ‘I expect more from Buffon.’ That is true and I agreed with that wholeheartedly.”
