Gianluigi Buffon gave a goalkeeping masterclass for Juventus last night

The veteran rolled the years back and conjured a number of breathtaking saves against Manchester City.

“GIANLUIGI BUFFON PULLED off many miraculous saves, particularly just after we went 1-0 down.

“I hope he will go on for as long as possible, certainly as long as I am manager. Buffon is an extraordinary goalkeeper, perhaps the best ever in the history of football. He never fails.”

Juventus boss Max Allegri was indebted to his veteran goalkeeper as Buffon – who turns 38 next January, conjured a number of magnificent stops to frustrate Manchester City and ensure Juve stayed in the game.

Despite Alvaro Morata’s goal proving crucial to the Italian giants coming from behind to win, Buffon was the undisputed man of the match as he made four standout saves.

His double-block from Raheem Sterling and David Silva has received widespread praise and rightfully so.

The agility to get down so low to push away the first effort was matched by how quickly he was back on his feet to make himself big and throw himself at Silva’s follow-up. Superb.

But there were two other moments when he shone.

Early on, Sterling had an excellent chance to put City in front but Buffon denied him at the near post.

And as the game ebbed towards conclusion, Yaya Toure’s long-range curler looked destined for the top corner only for Buffon to fling himself to his left and tip it around the post.
