'Conor McGregor could be smart or very dumb,' says UFC legend GSP

The former champion has his say on Aldo versus McGregor.

CONOR McGREGOR IS trying to get inside the head of Jose Aldo, similar to how Chael Sonnen played mind games with Anderson Silva.

That’s the verdict of legendary former UFC welterweight world champion Georges St Pierre, who discussed this summer’s meeting of McGregor and Aldo today on Sonnen’s ‘You’re Welcome’ podcast.

Aldo, the only featherweight title-holder in Ultimate Fighting Championship history, will defend his belt against the Dubliner in the UFC 189 main event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday, 11 July.

Last week, the 145lbs rivals concluded a 12-day media world tour, which concluded in Dublin with McGregor provoking his Brazilian opponent by grabbing his belt during a Q&A session with fans.

“Conor McGregor, he could be smart or very dumb,” said St Pierre. “But I think Conor McGregor is very skilled. He can back [up] what he says.

“Jose Aldo… he’s a very flamboyant fighter, he’s very dangerous, he has that aura of invincibility around him. He’s like the best pound-for-pound [fighter] in the world right now, that’s what I believe.

“I think Conor McGregor is trying to play that game, trying to get into his head. Maybe it’s going to work, maybe it’s not. We’ll see what’s going to happen.”

Meanwhile, St Pierre continues to leave the door open for a return to mixed martial arts, having relinquished his belt in December 2013 when he announced his retirement.

“I believe if I ever want to come back and fight, I could be the best in mixed martial arts, if I find the fun and I have the feel for it again,” said the 33-year-old Canadian. “If I train hard and I have the pleasure to do it, I believe I can still be on top.”
