Gary Woodland plans to play in Masters following 'heartbreaking' loss of unborn child

The world number 35 and his wife tragically lost one of their unborn twins last week.

AMERICAN GOLFER GARY Woodland plans to play in next week’s Masters following the ‘heartbreaking’ loss of one of his unborn twins.

The world number 35 last week withdrew from the World Match Play championship ahead of his second round game with Rory McIlroy, and this afternoon revealed there were complications during his wife’s pregnancy.

Woodland and his wife, Gabby, had announced their pregnancy on Instagram as recently as three weeks ago.

In a statement on his Twitter account, Woodland said: “Last week I withdrew from the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play to be with my wife, Gabby, as there were complications with our recently announced pregnancy with twins.

“Gabby and I have since had to cope with the heartbreaking loss of one of the babies, and our doctors will be closely monitoring the health of my wife and the other baby for the remainder of the pregnancy. We appreciate all of the love and support during this difficult time as we regroup as a family. At this point in time, I plan to play the Masters next week.”

The 32-year-old has won twice on the PGA Tour and has enjoyed a fine season to date having recorded four top 10 finishes in 2017.
