A BRILLIANT COMEBACK by Galway’s footballers saw them see off Roscommon in Dr Hyde Park this afternoon and in the process throw the Division 2 football league promotion race wide open.
Roscommon could have gone top of the table if they won today and looked on course for victory when they lead 1-8 to 0-4 at the interval. U21 star Diarmuid Murtagh fired home Roscommon’s goal in the opening half.
But Galway launched a revival with their own impressive U21 player Damien Comer finding the net and Peadar Óg Ó Gríofa struck 0-6 in the second-half as Kevin Walsh’s side ran out four point winners.

Ahead of the final round of league games in Division 2 next Sunday, nothing has yet been decided in the promotion and relegation battles. Last night’s action saw Kildare defeat Laois, Meath see off Down and Cavan overturn Westmeath.
Down are now top of the table on 8 points with Meath, Roscommon and Cavan all on 7 points, Galway on 6, Laois on 5 with Kildare and Westmeath joint bottom on 4.
The relegation battle will be fought out by Galway, Laois, Kildare and Westmeath while six teams can still be promoted. Next Sunday’s matches see Westmeath entertain Roscommon, Down at home to Laois, Kildare travel to face Galway and it’s Cavan away to Meath.
Division 3
Fermanagh secured promotion from Division 3 today with victory away to Wexford this afternoon. The result means Pete McGrath’s side can relax ahead of next weekend’s final round of games as they join Armagh, winners last night over Louth, in next month’s league final.
Fermanagh were full value for their eight-point win over Wexford and stay unbeaten. Tipperary are still in pole position to finish third after they saw off Sligo by two points while Limerick were convincing victors today at home to Munster rivals Clare.
Longford booked their spot in Division 3 next year after today’s win over Offaly. Jack Sheedy’s side ran out three-point winners to clinch promotion and will contest next month’s league decider in Croke Park.
They will take on Antrim or Offaly in that final with those counties clashing next Sunday in a winner-takes-all game in Tullamore. Antrim kept up their promotion charge by virtue of a narrow one-point win today over Wicklow. Elsewhere in the division, Leitrim saw off Carlow while it finished all square between London and Wicklow
