Galway have decided on a new hurling manager - reports

Michael Donoghue had been widely tipped to succeed Anthony Cunnigham and is expected to be ratified tonight.

MICHAEL DONOGHUE LOOKS set to be formally ratified as Galway hurling manager tonight following Anthony Cunningham’s controversial departure last month.

According to reports on Galway Bay FM this morning, Donoghue will be confirmed as the boss of last year’s All-Ireland finalists for the coming season.

The Clarinbridge man looks set to claim the role ahead of the likes of Mattie Kenny, who guided Dublin club Cuala to the Leinster final, and Roscommon boss Justin Campbell.

Donoghue has been involved with Eamon O’Shea’s Tipperary backroom team for the past two years and won the club All-Ireland with Clarinbridge in 2011. He also won the All-Ireland Under-21 championship as a player with Galway in 1993.

Galway’s first outing of the season will be a Walsh Cup clash at home to DCU in Ballinasloe on 10 January.
