Galway win again as they look to halt Mayo's five in-a-row bid next time out

Galway moved into the Connacht semi-final after a comfortable win over Leitrim.

Galway 1-13 Leitrim 0-8

GALWAY MADE IT two wins from two in this year’s Connacht championship after dispatching Leitrim by eight points and their reward will be a semi-final encounter with the four-time defending champions Mayo.

Paul Conroy’s accuracy from placed balls was key, with the St James’ man kicking five frees along with a further score from play. Peadar Og O Griofa and Michael Lundy also also scored points for Galway in the first half to add to five from Conroy, with Damien Comer scoring a decisive goal after a half an hour.

However, Leitrim kicked three unanswered points from Kevin Conlan, Fergal Clancy and Sean McWeeney to reduce the gap to 1-7 to 0-6 at the break.

Galway started the second half strongly though, with scores from Gary O’Donnell, Conroy and Comer reasserting their dominance as the Leitrim challenge petered out.

There were just four points scored between the sides in the final 15 minutes as Galway advanced to the semi-finals to face their biggest rivals on June 14 at 4pm in Pearse Stadium.
