GALWAY MADE IT two wins from two in this year’s Connacht championship after dispatching Leitrim by eight points and their reward will be a semi-final encounter with the four-time defending champions Mayo.
Paul Conroy’s accuracy from placed balls was key, with the St James’ man kicking five frees along with a further score from play. Peadar Og O Griofa and Michael Lundy also also scored points for Galway in the first half to add to five from Conroy, with Damien Comer scoring a decisive goal after a half an hour.
However, Leitrim kicked three unanswered points from Kevin Conlan, Fergal Clancy and Sean McWeeney to reduce the gap to 1-7 to 0-6 at the break.
Galway started the second half strongly though, with scores from Gary O’Donnell, Conroy and Comer reasserting their dominance as the Leitrim challenge petered out.
