Poll: Who will win today's All-Ireland senior hurling final - Galway or Limerick?

Will Limerick end their long wait to lift the Liam MacCarthy – or will the cup be heading back for another winter in Galway?

IT’S ALL-IRELAND final day. A few weeks earlier than we’re used to, yes, but set to be as special as ever as the men of Limerick and reigning champions Galway do battle for the 2018 crown.

Limerick have waited 45 long years to call the Liam MacCarthy Cup their own once more, and 11 years to even be in with a shot on All-Ireland Sunday.

But their extra-time epic against Cork in the semi-finals, and the manner in which they dug out victory that day, left nobody in any doubt as to their credentials.

Their opponents, Galway, know exactly what it takes to end a famine. When David Burke climbed the steps of the Hogan Stand last year September, he became the first Galway captain to get his hands on the famous silverware since 1988.

Now the challenge facing the Tribesmen is a different one again: can they match the double-winning side of the late 80s and finally succeed them in the pantheon of Galway greats?

We’ll soon find out. Throw-in this afternoon is at 3.30pm.
