Good afternoon and welcome to The42′s live coverage of another busy afternoon in the GAA football championship.

Our main focus today will be on the Munster semi-final between Kerry and Clare, and the Connacht semi-final between Galway and Sligo, both of which throw in at 3.30pm.

But let’s not forget the action in Ulster where Fermanagh and Monaghan got underway at 2pm. Fermanagh currently lead that one by a point, 0-6 to 0-5, with 47 minutes played.

LATE CHANGE: One switch on the Clare side; Conal O hAiniféin, wearing 24, starts at corner forward in place of Eimhin Courtney.

Just about ready to go in Killarney and in Salthill… but back in Omagh, Monaghan have just stuck their noses in front through Colin Walshe. With 65 minutes played, it’s Monaghan 0-8 Fermanagh 0-7.

We’ll stay focused on the final minutes in Ulster for now because just after Conor McManus pointed a free to put Monaghan two up, Tomás Corrigan cancelled it out with a free of his own at the other end. 68 mins played, Monaghan 0-9 Fermanagh 0-8.

70 mins — Monaghan 0-10 Fermanagh 0-8: Drew Wylie! The Ballybay veteran bursts forward and kicks a score to push Monaghan two clear.

But we’re hearing there’ll be five additional minutes.

GOAL FOR FERMANAGH!

71 mins — Fermanagh 1-8 Monaghan 0-10: Incredible stuff! A long, hopeful ball towards the Monaghan goal drops short and Eoin Donnelly rises highest to punch it to the net. They lead by a point now! What a moment.

Fermanagh just trying to keep possession and run out the remainder of the five additional minutes. They don’t need to score, but they can’t afford to make a mistake…

Monaghan have the ball back with 45 seconds of additional time remaining…

Conor McManus… wide! Full credit to McManus for taking on the responsibility to fashion one final chance with time running out, but it would have taken an almighty effort to score from wide out on the right under a lot of pressure. It tails away left and drops wide.

Now, back to matters in Killarney and Salthill where matters are progressing very much as expected in the opening minutes.

After 15 minutes, Kerry lead Clare 0-6 to 0-3 — Sean O’Shea with three of those Kerry scores, and a first senior championship point for young David Clifford.

In Salthill, with 18 minutes played, Galway are six points up over Sligo, 0-8 to 0-2. That tally already includes two for Shane Walsh, two for Barry McHugh and one for Damien Comer.

16 mins — Kerry 0-7 Clare 0-3: Paul Geaney tacks on another to stretch Kerry’s lead to four.

19 mins — Kerry 0-8 Clare 0-3: Stephen O’Brien lets it in to Paul Geaney, who might have won a free, but battles on and kicks his second score in quick succession.

19 mins — Kerry 0-9 Clare 0-3: James O’Donoghue — the only Kerry forward not on the scoresheet yet — strikes the post but the hosts recycle possession and Stephen O’Brien takes the straightforward option to fist it over the bar.

23 mins — Galway 0-10 Sligo 0-3: Eamonn Brannigan and Johnny Heaney point in quick succession for Galway, who are largely having it their own way so far.

23 mins — Kerry 0-11 Clare 0-3: Now all of Kerry’s forwards are on the scoresheet as James O’Donoghue opens his account. Micheál Burns pops up with another. Comfortable for Kerry.

26 mins — Kerry 0-12 Clare 0-3: Kerry free as Clifford is fouled, and Sean O’Shea does the necessary.

26 mins — Galway 0-11 Sligo 0-3: Sligo struggling to keep tabs on Damien Comer who adds another.

27 mins — Kerry 0-14 Clare 0-3: Ooooh, chance for Kerry as Jack Barry bears down on goal but fires his shot over the bar. JOD adds another on the next play. This one is already slipping out of Clare’s reach.

29 mins — Kerry 0-15 Clare 0-3: Another placed ball, another Sean O’Shea point.

32 mins — Galway 0-13 Sligo 0-5: Liam Gaughan kicks two points in quick succession to make sure Sligo aren’t completely cut adrift by the break.

34 mins — Galway 0-13 Sligo 0-6: That’s three on the spin now for Galway as Ruairi Lavelle rushes a kickout and Adrian Marren takes his point.

35 mins — Galway 0-14 Sligo 0-6: Barry McHugh is fouled, and Barry McHugh points his own free.

HALF TIME: Kerry 0-16 Clare 0-4

Paul Geaney and Eoin Cleary swap scores to end the half. Kerry 12 up.

GOAL FOR GALWAY! Galway 1-15 Sligo 0-6: That’s a sucker punch for Sligo who were threatening to at least make the second half a little bit interesting. Galway burst forward, and Comer sets up Sean Kelly to finish.

The second half will be little more than a formality now, you’d expect…

GOAL FOR SLIGO! Galway 1-15 Sligo 1-6: Flying start from Sligo and Sean Carrabine plays the ball in towards goal and Kyle Cawley gets up above Ruairi Lavelle to score. Can Sligo launch some sort of comeback here?

40 mins — Kerry 0-17 Clare 0-6: Two points from Clare’s Jamie Malone to start this second half, with a Stephen O’Brien response in between.

42 mins — Kerry 0-19 Clare 0-6: This is only going to get more one-sided from this point onwards, and Clare’s attacking forays are becoming more and more timid. Geaney beats two men to score, and then O’Donoghue kicks a free.

43 mins — Kerry 0-21 Clare 0-6: Geaney (again) and O’Shea score. Kerry lead by 15 points now and they are cruising. Very impressive stuff from the Kerry forwards.

(On that note, it’s worth highlighting that Kerry’s front six account for 20 of those 21 points — everything bar Jack Barry’s first-half point. Remarkable.)

45 mins — Galway 1-18 Sligo 1-7: Shane Walsh points a free to stretch Galway’s lead to 11.

GOAL FOR GALWAY! Galway 2-19 Sligo 1-9: Ian Burke gets his name on the scoresheet but he owes Shane Walsh a huge debt of gratitude for his work to set it up. He sliced through and squared the ball for Burke to finish.

52 mins — Kerry 0-23 Clare 0-8: Barry John Keane comes on for James O’Donoghue and makes an instant impact with his first point.

58 mins — Kerry 0-25 Clare 0-8: Eamonn Fitzmaurice is emptying his bench now with Anthony Maher, Brian O Beaglaoich and Darran O’Sullivan on as well. Clifford points a free before departing for O’Sullivan, and Keane adds on another.

59 mins — Galway 2-21 Sligo 1-10: It’s all petering out in Salthill with Galway in complete control. 8,171 is the attendance out west this afternoon.

GOAL FOR GALWAY! Galway 3-21 Sligo 1-11: Five minutes left, and Sligo must be wishing for this to be over as Damien Comer — having created so much today — gets in on the goal act himself.

(ANOTHER) GOAL FOR GALWAY! Galway 4-21 Sligo 1-11: Comer again! A second in the space of two minutes. They lead by a massive 19 points now.

68 mins — Kerry 0-28 Clare 0-10: Back in Killarney, Anthony Maher points and Kerry lead by 18.

FULL TIME: Kerry 0-32 Clare 0-10

Kerry pile on the pain late on as Paul Geaney, Michael Geaney, Darran O’Sullivan and Barry John Keane grab a point apiece before the final whistle.

One-sided, to say the least.

That’s it as far as the football is concerned for today. The afternoon started with a shock as Fermanagh stunned Monaghan to book their return to the Ulster final for the first time since 2008, but in Munster and Connacht, it was business as usual as Kerry and Galway racked up 20+ point to set up provincial deciders against Cork and Roscommon respectively.
