BRAZILIAN MIDFIELDER FRED failed a doping test during the Copa America, according to reports in Brazil.

The 22-year-old tested positive for the prohibited diuretic hydrochlorothiazide at the tournament in Chile.

The results of a second test are due to be released on Tuesday.

Fred, who plays his club football with Shakhtar Donetsk, was not involved at the 2014 World Cup and was handed a late call-up to the Copa America squad by Dunga to replace the injured Luiz Gustavo.
