Edinburgh lock gets two-week ban for charge on Munster's O'Donoghue

Fraser McKenzie had already been omitted from the squad for tonight’s clash with Connacht before today’s ruling was released.

EDINBURGH SECOND ROW Fraser McKenzie has been handed a two-week ban for his reckless charge on Munster’s Jack O’Donoghue last weekend.

McKenzie was sin-binned for the 12th minute incident that left O’Donoghue needing a stretcher to be removed from the field.

The Scot was cited under Law 10.4 (h and K) and Wednesday’s hearing (announced today) found him guilty, but at the low end of the spectrum.

The disciplinary committee in Cardiff, chaired by the WRU’s Roger Morris, deemed that the player’s actions were not deliberate, but the statement added:

“His actions were judged to be reckless. Under the Law 10.4(h) (k) it was deemed that the player’s act of foul play was a lower end offence which has a sanction entry point of two weeks.”

McKenzie had already been omitted from the Edinburgh squad for tonight’s Pro12 clash with Connacht and will now also miss Treviso’s visit to Murrayfield next weekend. The suspension ends on 10 October, so the 28-year-old’s first game back will likely be Edinburgh’s Challenge Cup trip to face Romanian club Timisoara Saracens on 15 October.
